History

Pilat Insurance Agency was established by Stephen Pilat in 1948. Stephen was a full-time life insurance representative for Equitable Life Assurance Society of New York.  In 1953, he began expanding into the property and casualty insurance business with Aetna Casualty & Surety (now Travelers Property Casualty). Initially located in downtown Cleveland, the agency moved to its current location on Ridge Road in Parma in 1961. Throughout the years, Stephen represented various carriers to meet the needs of his clients, and the agency was officially incorporated in 1980.

His son, Richard, joined the agency as office manager in 1987 after graduating from college. As Stephen retired in the mid-1990s, Richard took over management of the agency operations, and after Stephen's death in 2002, Richard assumed full responsibility and ownership of Pilat Insurance Agency.

The agency has been a lasting member of various industry trade organizations including the Professional Insurance Agents Association, Independent Agents and Brokers Association, and Insurance Board of Northern Ohio (formerly Insurance Board of Greater Cleveland and Cuyahoga County Insurance Board).

In 2016, Pilat Insurance became affiliated with The Insurance Office/Sincerney Insurance Agency in Rocky River. This partnering provides more insurance carrier choices for clients and secures a long-term plan for the future of the agency. The owner and her son are long-time friends and colleagues of Richard and are experienced insurance professionals. With this affiliation, the agency now also has access to Erie Insurance, Grange Insurance, Nationwide, Liberty Mutual, and West Bend Mutual Insurance, among others.
